DUVAL NAMED LIBERTY LEAGUE PITCHER OF THE WEEK


TROY, N.Y. – The Liberty League has announced its weekly award winners in baseball and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athletes Jonny Rio, Dan Duval and Andrew Kalish have been recognized. Rio was named Performer of the Week, while Duval and Kalish were tabbed Pitcher and Rookie of the Week, respectively.

Duval, a junior righthander out of Middleton, Mass., went 2-0 in two starts last week, allowing just four runs (3 earned) on seven hits over 12.2 innings for a 2.13 earned run average. His two victories came against Ripon College and UMass-Dartmouth.

As a sophomore in 2010, Duval was 4-3 with a 3.18 earned run average in 51.0 innings. Appearing in 11 contests, including seven as a starter, he recorded two complete games and struck out 34 batters to 18 walks. The Masconomet High School graduate allowed a .268 opponents batting average.

The Engineers (6-4) are back on the diamond on Wednesday when they travel south to face William Paterson (3:30pm). RPI makes its home debut on Saturday with a Liberty League doubleheader against St. Lawrence at Robison Field (1pm).
