NAVS Star as NCAA 2010 Season Opens









NAVIGATORS Star as NCAA 2010 College Baseball Season Opens!
The 2010 NCAA College Baseball Season opened this weekend and the NAVS were front and center of the action from around the country. Around the Horn will keep you posted on all NAVS player highlights during the spring.

New Orleans: Anthony Melchionda led Boston College to an opening day 8-5 win over Tulane University. Melchionda was 2 for 4 with a career high 4RBI including a Home Run. In the 2nd game of the series on Saturday, Melchionda continued to swing a hot bat going 2 for 5 with an RBI. Navs Freshmen Right hander Hunter Gordon pitched 2 scoreless innings in his collegiate debut to close out Tulane and preserve the shutout


Los Angeles: 3 Navs are suiting up and leading the way for JUCO power house Cypress College of Los Angeles. Starting Pitcher Ray Hanson is 2 and 0 with a 1.93 era. In 18.2 innings Hanson has 20K's and only 4BB. Outfielder Matt Avery is batting leadoff and leading Cypress with a .385 Batting Average; 4 Home Runs; and 8RBI. 09 NECBL ALL Star NAV Ben Waldrip after a slow start coming off a thumb injury led Cypress to a 12-5 victory over Southern Nevada and the #1 prospect in the upcoming 2010 MLB Draft, Bryce Harper. Waldrip was 3 for 6 with 4RBI and 2 runs scored.


Long Beach: Projected NAVS starting CF, Brennan Metzger led the Dirtbags to an opening day 2 to 1 victory over Pepperdine (Dan Patrick - Navs P). Metzger was 1 for 2 batting leadoff and scored both of the Dirtbags runs.


San Diego: Oklahoma University and NAVS reliever Brandon Bargas pitched a scoreless 8th inning against San Diego State striking out the side in his first collegiate appearance and the Sooners opening day.

Knoxville: U. of Tennesse and Navs outfielder Charlie Thurber started in Right Field for the Vols and batted 5 times in UT's opening day 16-6 victory over Xavier.

Clemson: Navs and Clemson Tiger freshmen pitcher Dominic Leone pitched a scoreless 9th inning closing out Clemson's opening day 11-0 victory over Miami of Ohio.
Baylor: Navs Crayton Bare and Ross Speed's Baylor Bears opened the season with a 9-3 victory over Duke, before dropping a 7-5 game to Georgia.

Jacksonville State and Hunter Rivers dropped a pair of games to Michigan and Texas Tech.

Orange Ca, - Navs Catcher John Hill is batting .286 with 5 RBI for the 7 and 1 Concordia University.

San Diego: Tyler Keuhl is leading off and playing SS for 8 and 1 Point Loma.

Miami: Nav Pitcher Jerry Elsing and Rutgers open a weekend series versus the Hurricanes in Miami.

Gainesville: Navs Cody Dent and Ben Brown open a weekend series with the Gators versus USF.
